2017 Civil War Weekend Events Happening at the Kernstown Battlefield 

Civil War Weekend in Winchester-Frederick County is right around the corner. This year’s event will take place from Aug. 18-20, and will feature a ton of fun and educational events about the war itself, as well as what life was like during that time. Since there are so many events going on during the weekend, we wanted to highlight the 2017 Civil War Weekend events happening at the Kernstown Battlefield.  

American flag patch on army jacketEvents at the battlefield are being kicked off on Saturday, Aug. 19 with the Civil War Era Picnic. This period picnic will take place on the lawn of the Pritchard House, with Mrs. Pritchard hosting the event. On the same day from 11am to 1pm, you can take a tour with Roger Henderberg of the Kernstown Battlefield. However, there will also be tours of the battlefield taking place all weekend.

Stonewall Jackson’s Headquarters in Winchester VA 

The Kernstown Battlefield Association and Stonewall Jackson’s Headquarters Museum are also offering a Stonewall Jackson Seminar on Saturday from 10am-4pm. The event will consist of two special tours, as well as guest speakers Steve French and Jerry Holsworth, who are both authors and historians, to talk about the history of Stonewall Jackson and the First Battle of Kernstown. The event will cost $20, and lunch will be provided.
